History

The Legacy of Love Foundation, Inc. was founded by the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In 1992, Liller B. Green, a member of the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter challenged the chapter membership to plan for the future of our most valuable resource - the children of our community. Integrating her business sense, foresight and love for her sorority, she made a personal gift of $25,000 to establish a Scholarship Endowment Foundation with the stipulation that the chapter match the gift within five years. The members of Philadelphia Alumnae matched the gift in one year! The funds were used to establish  the Scholarship Endowment Foundation as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.

To increase the fund, a five-year Legacy of Love Campaign initiated in 1997 to raise $250,000. In 2002, the Scholarship Endowment Foundation honored Philadelphia Alumnae members who contributed towards meeting the goal in record time by successfully raising $250,000 from within the chapter membership. Their efforts enabled the Foundation to complete Phase I of a capital campaign to endow scholarships.

In 2004, the name of the Scholarship Endowment Foundation, Inc. was changed to The Legacy of Love Foundation, Inc. and the mission was expanded to include outreach to the community. Inspired by the members of Philadelphia Alumnae’s dedication to our mission, the Foundation’s board of directors established a new fundraising goal of one million dollars ($1,000,000).
